I wrote a Summer Vacation Essentials article on Curl Maven this week. But I didn’t talk about what it’s like to travel if you have anxiety, and the things I’ve learned to help manage my anxiety or what to do if you have a panic attack when travelling. So here are my tips, advice and recommendations. From someone who’s cancelled travel plans, switched hotels within minutes of checking in and flown home early.

I’ve been travelling since I was just a few months old. And I’ve had anxiety for as long as I can remember due to a particularly traumatic experience when I was travelling alone as a child. I manage it well most of the time, but travelling can often trigger crippling panic and anxiety attacks and I know I’m not the only one who suffers like this.

It doesn’t seem to matter or make any difference if I’m travelling with other people, or I’m flying solo. But over the years, I’ve found some things that have really helped soothe my anxiety, prevent panic attacks and make travelling a much smoother, enjoyable experience.
